Having survived the farcical but utterly life-threatening events in Happy Death Day , the feisty sorority sister, Tree Gelbman, finds herself in the same college dorm, thankful to be alive.
However, this time, it's Carter's roommate, Ryan, who claims that he is reliving the same paradoxical day over and over again, as a mysterious paranoid killer in a single-toothed baby-faced mask with a big kitchen knife has made a habit of murdering him.
Under those circumstances, a valiant but vain attempt to face the challenge, once more, will send Tree back to square one, trapped in an all too familiar and blood-drenched time loop.

Jessica Rothe and Rachel Matthews are perfect in this movie! This movie takes you on such a wild ride that you will want to ride again and again!
I plan on seeing at least two more times before it leaves the cinema. Also stay for the post credit scene you won't regret it!

Bronson confiscates the reactor before the group can activate it. Believing she is too weak to survive another loop, Tree insists they retrieve the device.
The group enlists Danielle to distract Bronson while they recover the reactor. As Ryan readies the device, Tree goes to the hospital to rescue Lori from Tombs, but is trapped by the second Babyface—revealed to be Dr.
Butler trying to bury the evidence of his affair with Lori. Butler's wife Stephanie appears and shoots Lori, revealing she is in league with her husband, but he betrays and shoots her as well.
Tree outsmarts Butler and kills him. Lori survives, and Tree and Carter kiss as the reactor activates, sending Tree back to her original dimension on Tuesday the 19th.
When the agents say they need a test subject in order to see how the machine works, Tree says she knows the perfect test subject.
In her bedroom, Danielle wakes up, screaming in horror. Ahead of the first film's release, director Christopher Landon talked about the possibility of a sequel, focusing on why Tree went into the time loop stating "The whole idea for my sequel is actually already in this movie".
Actress Jessica Rothe in an interview in stated that while most horror sequels retread the original, Landon's pitch instead "elevates the movie from being a horror movie into a Back to the Future type of genre film where the sequel joins us right from where we left off, it explains a lot of things in the first one that didn't get explained, and it elevates everything.
The sequel was officially announced with filming scheduled to begin on May 10, Most of the original actors returned, including Rothe, Modine, Broussard, and Matthews.
In addition, Suraj Sharma and Sarah Yarkin were cast. Principal photography on the film began on May 14, , in New Orleans, Louisiana.
On February 15, , Back Lot Music released the original motion picture soundtrack for the film, with music produced by Bear McCreary. The soundtrack did not feature Lizzo 's cover of " Stayin' Alive ".
On January 2, , Back Lot Music released a cover of " Stayin' Alive " performed by Lizzo as a stand-alone promotional single for the movie.
The song plays throughout the first set of end credits before the post-credit scene. Happy Death Day 2U was released on February 13, It was originally scheduled to be released one day later, on Valentine's Day.
The website's critical consensus reads, "A funnier follow-up with a sci-fi bent, Happy Death Day 2U isn't as fiendishly fresh as its predecessor, but fans of the original may still find this a sequel worth celebrating.

Just when she thought that time had been restored to normal a lab accident knocks Tree into another dimension in another time-loop where everything is different except that she's still being hunted by a killer.
The plot's a little confusing and is rushed in the beginning, but then it slows down and gets kind of interesting as Tree realizes the differences in dimensions and starts thinking about the what ifs and whether or not she want to return to her dimension.
The tone is more comedic than the original, with a lot of slapstick and overacting. Yet the change in tone kind of works as the absurdist humor keeps things lighthearted and fun.
While Happy Death Day 2U is different than the original, it's still an entertaining horror-comedy or maybe it's a sci-fi comedy. Dann M Super Reviewer.
Jun 25, The first Happy Death Day was a refreshing new take on the slasher genre with an enjoyable lead actress and a fun dark humor.
Not perfect, but fun, and I was actually looking forward to the sequel. What I can give this sequel is it's not a rehash, well, not in the traditional sense.
While it does tread over familiar scenes, it does so with the time travel mechanic in sort of a Back to the Future 2 way that's actually quite fun.
The plot itself, is brand new. However, it pretty much drops the slasher element for this weird overexplained sci-fi story that we didn't really need and a convoluted plot that even it can't seem to keep track of.
I'm not even joking, besides kicking Tree back into the loop, the entirety of the first 20 minutes are completely inconsequential to the rest of the movie.
