I don't know how much of the show is improvised, but it has a similar feel to Curb Your Enthusiasm in many ways. Follow the career arc of a late night talk show host - just a cut below Letterman and Leno - with an entertaining ensemble cast and guest Hollywood stars playing versions of themselves.
The infighting, insincerity, self-absorption all ring true in a humorous way - and that's just Larry. No show portrayed human condition as well.

I like the Larry Sanders show. I never watched it when it was actually on tv. Its fun to see the stars "way back when" they were younger or just becoming famous.
I enjoy the characters and getting to see what its like backstage at the talk shows.. Its pretty funny stuff. This is as good as a comedy can get. It holds up like fine wine.

Sell one like this. On top of everything else, the show is painfully and consistently funny. It may be the most well-written show that's ever been put on American network television.
If you've never seen it, do yourself a favor and give it a shot for a few episodes. And if you're like me and already knew and loved it, watching it again is still enjoyable.
We introduced my mother-in-law to the show a few months ago, and we watched it again from first episode to last over the course of a couple of months, and it was a joy to re-watch, and also to see a new convert to the show being born.
You have Larry and Hank. Rip Torn hits his later career peak here. And the guest stars seem to be having a hoot, which gives the whole project great energy above and beyond the top notch writing.
Full of actual real life guest stars that have friendly to combative jousts with the insecure Sanders in front of and behind the camera.
A colorful look at Hollywood, the pressures on televison shows that are slaves to ratings and the tenuous egos behind the lens.
Since this was on cable, the language and some scenes are adult but that's part of the fun, the gloves are off and you see the characters as they really are, or are portrayed.

My favorite character is without question, Artie Rip Torn , the character is so perfect for Mr Torn it's impossible to imagine any other actor playing the part, he constantly assists himself side by side with Larry, protecting him from the day 2 day Even thought the 3 Main Characters Larry, Artie, and Hank are what the show is all about, the supporting characters keep give the show it's flavor.
Sanders as happy as can be, although it's usually them making the show go haywire. I hope Season 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6 will all be releashed on DVD in the near future as I've just purchased season 1 a couple days earlier.

I even taped some of the episodes the tapes have long since been lost. At the time I thought it amazing, original, and the format often repeated lately "Rob Brydon's annually retentive" but never ever equalled.
No laughter track, amazing ensemble acting. I could go on and on. The only downside is Sony's reluctance to release the full series.
Been waiting for them to release Sanders for years. Remember watching this in the s on BBC2. It always came after Seinfeld and was shown at a ridiculously late time.
The BBC had two of the greatest sitcoms ever and hardly anyone knew about it because of their bizarre scheduling. Anyway, this is the grand-daddy of the modern sitcom.
Any comedy that attempts a realistic documentary style, that doesn't bother with a laughter track, that revels in social embarrassment - this is all where it started.
