Riley returns to Skid Row, which is now swarming with Diego's men. She manages to kill several of them including Diego's second-in-command, and also finds Inman's body.
Using Inman's phone, she contacts the media, reveals her location and exposes Carmicheal as a dirty cop, inviting both the media and the LAPD.
She confronts Diego, stalling him long enough for the police to arrive. Diego, thinking Carmichael betrayed him, shoots and kills him and runs, only to be beaten down by Riley.
Beltran comes and asks Riley to stand down and assures her that Diego will be arrested and rot in prison with no hope of bribing his way out but Riley doesn't trust him.
Surrounded by police with no hope of escape and underestimating Riley's resolve to end his life, Diego laughs maniacally at her, telling her that she will spend more time in prison than him, only for Riley to reply "we are not going to prison" and shoot Diego, splattering most of his head on the wall behind him.
She is shot by the police, but Beltran orders them to cease fire, and Riley once again manages to escape. Beltran finds Riley critically wounded at her family's gravestone.
He brings her to the hospital, despite Riley's expressed desire to die at the grave. Beltran later visits her while she's in police custody at a hospital to stand trial for multiple homicides, telling her that there are many who agree with what she did, and slips her the key to her handcuffs, allowing Riley to escape again.
In May director Pierre Morel was attached to the project, he previously directed the first film in the Taken series starring Liam Neeson.
The script came from writer Chad St. Filming took place on location in California over fifty days. Training included dance, cardio and weight training, boxing workouts, artillery sessions, and stunt work with her longtime double, Shauna Duggins.
The film premiered at the Regal Cinemas L. The film went on general release in the United States on September 7, The website's critical consensus reads, "Far from refreshing, Peppermint wastes strong work from Jennifer Garner on a dreary vigilante revenge story that lacks unique twists or visceral thrills.
Frank Scheck of The Hollywood Reporter called the film " Death Wish on steroids", and said it "lacks subtlety and anything even remotely resembling credibility, but like its heroine, it certainly gets the job done".
He wrote that Garner deserves to be in better films, and said the film is "rare return to form for Garner, who doles out her vigilante justice with effortless charm.
Unfortunately, that's about the only reason to see Peppermint ". Drably by-the-numbers except for the moments where it goes gobsmackingly off-the-rails, Peppermint misfires from start to finish.

She is badly wounded but survives. Despite her injuries, Riley is able to positively identify the shooters. A senior Detective named Beltran warns his younger partner Carmichael about a previous detective who was murdered after trying to make a case against Diego, and warns him to "let what's going to happen happen.
He tries to bribe her with money not to testify and when unsuccessful, uses her anti-psychotic medication to portray her as an unreliable witness in court.
Judge Stevens, secretly on the cartel's payroll, declares there is insufficient evidence to allow the perpetrators to stand trial and dismisses the case, while the prosecuting lawyers do nothing.
Outraged, Riley tries to attack her family's killers, but is subdued and loaded into an ambulance, to be taken to a psychiatric ward.
Before the ambulance can leave, she fights her way out and escapes. Five years later, Beltran and Carmichael arrive at the carnival and find the three shooters hanging from a Ferris wheel, having been killed by Riley in the opening scene, Riley repeatedly stabbed one of the shooters in a car before shooting him in the head.
Inman explains to Beltran and Carmichael that before vanishing 5 years earlier, Riley robbed the bank where she previously worked.
She has recently returned after spending several years overseas learning how to fight, and robbed a gun shop to obtain various assault rifles and ammunition.
Meanwhile, Riley subdues the now-retired Judge Stevens by tying him up, nailing his hands to a table, and wrapping him in explosive cord before blowing him up with a remote-control bomb, having already killed the defense and prosecution lawyers involved, she had drowned the defense lawyer in his swimming pool and immolated the prosecution lawyers.
Inman, Carmichael, and Beltran decide to tell the media about Riley, triggering a debate on social media between those who see her as a hero and those who see her as a criminal.
Elsewhere, Diego is being threatened by the cartel, he partners with for the lost shipments of drugs caused by Riley's actions.
Riley heads to a business that is a front for Diego's money laundering, killing a large number of his men.
Diego realizes that Riley is responsible for his recent shipments going missing, and resolves to kill her.
Inman discovers that Riley has been living on Skid Row , owing to recent changes to crime patterns in the area. She finds Riley's van, which is filled with the stolen weapons, and learns that the people there see Riley as their guardian angel for keeping them safe, especially those living near the locations where Garcia conducts his illegal operations as they are fed up with his gang activities.
Diego rigs his drug warehouse to kill Riley, expecting she will come to dismantle it. She escapes the resulting explosion via a sewer, follows his henchmen to Diego's home, and kills more of his men.
She is about to kill Diego, but is interrupted by Diego's young daughter. This causes Riley to hesitate, allowing him to wound her and escape. Riley shows up to Peg's house and after a conversation about Peg's failed marriage, punches Peg unconscious, ties her up, steals her SUV and drives away.
Still on Skid Row, Inman calls Carmichael to meet her. She plans to wait for Riley, talk her out and capture Garcia and his gang, together with their informant.

I liked her use of stuff she had never before touched. When pushed came to shove she has nothing to loose anymore cos she has lost everything that she cares about in her world.
She despises crooked cops. She disposes of people in an almost psychopathic way Most people really like this movie.
Report abuse. I got this film expecting just another average thriller and was pleasantly surprised to find it instead as a superior revenge movie with some excellent action set pieces and a very good storyline.

Dass man eine simpel gestrickte Rachegeschichte durchaus auf eine höhere Stufe heben kann, bewies Coralie Fargeat erst kürzlich mit ihrem wilden, Grenzen sprengenden Thriller Revengeder geschickt die Konventionen und Geschlechterrollen des Spannungskinos durcheinanderwirbelte. Doch das ist Vorzelt lange nicht alles, denn Riley muss feststellen, dass sie von Polizei und Justiz im Stich gelassen wurde und die Mörder von den Behörden gedeckt werden.
