Kait Nolan's books are a delight for several reasons. Her amazing skill as a writer always shines, but I also appreciate her attention to detail and accuracy.
In this book, her thorough research into medical procedures and police rescue operations added authenticity to the plot. Her plots and characters are realistic and likeable, except for the villains, of course.
And you'll love Ethan! Kudos also for limited profanity and for professional editing and proofreading. Truly a pleasurable reading experience.
And the challenges and difficulties were very real and scary. I know that the topic of domestic violence is a trigger for some readers, and I think the author handled the descriptions of the incidents of DV very responsibly and sensitively, and folded them seamlessly into the larger story very neatly.
And the protagonists were both a little unusual for a southern romance novel, in a delightful way. If I could give 4. I save 5 stars for books that affect me profoundly, which romance novels rarely do for me.
I've read others in the related series, so many of the characters were familiar to me. I liked the characters, but I felt like in the suspense elements, what should have been a clear suspect was being deliberately overlooked in a way that didn't make sense in context.

Not only was there a really good romance, there was also a pretty scary mystery involved as well. I really liked the two main characters, Miranda and Ethan.
They both go into the "good people" category. And Ethan is the true good guy lawmaker, who has Miranda's best interests in mind. There's also a very scary scenario that builds throughout the book, and kept things moving at a very fast pace.

Yes, Ethan is steaming hot and Miranda is full of doubt that she can break through his walls but it is the feisty, sassy bickering or foreplay between them that I enjoyed the most.
We get to see the hidden sense of humor that they keep under wraps for their day jobs, it will have you laughing out loud, gasping in outrage and sighing with contentment, making this book better than the rest!
Having read the odd book here and there in this series I gave this one a go. It was an easy enough read with familiar characters and a familiar setting.
The plot was well enough written with plenty of twists. Yet again Kait has kept me enthralled from the first word to the very last!
