It's interesting if flawed. Kevin M. W Super Reviewer. Feb 14, Bill Hader shines so surprisingly in a sombre, hauntingly accurate role of a depressed and suicidal gay man and along with Wiig manages to shed any vanity and perform brilliantly in this ultra-sad, ultra-dark comedy drama.
The Skeleton Twins is an independent film about suicide that is more fun than it should be and features an amazing lip-sync scene to Starship's "Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now".
How often can you say that about a film? Definitely worth a watch. Harry W Super Reviewer. Mar 13, After an attempted suicide Milo Dean goes to stay with his sister as he attempts to sort out his problems, but he soon discovers that she's dealing will similar issues.
The acting isn't bad, but the characters are drab and lifeless. And this is reflected in the look and feel of the film, which is toned down and subdued.
Cold and aloof, The Skeleton Twins is a dour film that's unable to tell a compelling story. Dann M Super Reviewer.
Mar 07, An average, ultra-sad movie concerning a suicidal brother Bill Hader and his twin sister Kristen Wiig , who grew up in a very dysfunctional household, and how they reconnect many years later after a tragedy occurs, forcing them to try to figure out where their lives went wrong.
This is a simple movie and one that possesses strong dramatic tones, but ultimately it lacks the comedic punch that would have made it a better, more balanced film.
The two central performances from Hader and Wiig are outstanding, and they make this thing almost watchable by themselves, but ultimately it comes across as a little too needy on an emotional level, just like the characters themselves.

Trigger warning: there is more than one suicide attempt in this movie. But ultimately, the movie is hopeful, displays the bond between two messed-up people, the love and the hurt there, and how they figure out that what they really need is in each other.
Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig play their characters believably and brilliantly, with phenomenal chemistry. I love this movie and it actually breaks my heart to see so many negative reviews on it, and for such shallow or unfounded reasons.
This is a great movie. I really enjoyed this movie. Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig are both amazing actors and this movie does a great job of showcasing their awesome talent.
America is a better place because they are in it. This movie deals with some serious and dark issues- mental health, suicide, homosexuality, sexuality, small towns, abuse I recommend checking out this film.
It is a drama, and it is great to see to comedic actors doing such a great job with dramatic roles. But, don't worry, there are a few lighthearted moments in the story too.

This is so tough to deal with, this movie did an excellent job expressing some of what goes on, in a tastefully humerous way.
One of my all-time favorite movies! Emotionally powerful, yet funny and enjoyable--the perfect balance. Milo and Maggie, an estranged brother and sister, start to reconnect after each has a failed suicide attempt.
As they start to rediscover each other, they also start to rediscover the causes of their estrangement--layer after layer is peeled away until the awful truth is revealed--and it's not over yet!
Bill Hader and Kristen Wiig have the perfect chemistry to pull off these complex interacting roles.
It's priceless. I absolutely love watching their recurring sketch characters on SNL. Not just because they are exceptionally good characters but because they are both notorious for laughing during their skits which in turn this makes me laugh even more.
I mean there was definitely a handful of remarks that made me laugh. However at the end of the movie, I felt I was wanting something more.
Possibly that the potential at the beginning was there but then didn't come to full fruition. Maybe twenty minutes or so into this film I was ready to dismiss this film because the title characters were so unsympathetic.
Milo Bill Hader is a gay unemployed actor. Maggie Kristen Wiig is an unhappily married dental hygienist. These twin siblings share depressiveness and self absorption.
The feelings of others are subordinate to their own. At some point in the film it dawns on you that the twins aren't meant to be liked but to be empathized with.
Despite their personalities we do root for them to find some kind of peace with themselves. Most people aren't as selfishly extreme as Milo and Maggie but to some extent we are all flawed.
In the Seventies this kind of edgy filmmaking was the norm and we should applaud this kind of risk taking. This indie has resonance and ranks as one of the best films of When I first watched this film, just last year , I was shocked that I had never heard of it before.
How could a film with two major stars go so undetected? I will admit to not being a Kristen Wiig fan.
I loathe "Bridesmaids" and considered her to be a one-trick pony. Comedy was all she could do. Then I saw "Skeleton Twins".
The performances of Wiig and Hader is simply mind-blowing. The chemistry between the two is so believable that I almost began to imagine they are, in fact, siblings.
The one line in the story, without giving away anything, that I felt wasn't needed was the former teacher.
It took away from the main story line and could have simply been referenced instead of shown. Although Ty Burrell is another surprise dramatic performer in this who is remarkable in this role.
If you haven't watched this film, please do so. Please go in with an open mind. Know that it is dark.
It is depressing, but boy oh boy, is it true. Everyone has their demons, their shadows and their self-destruction, in one way or another.
This show highlights those traits in two people but makes you understand why they are where they are so beautifully.
Sprachen Englisch. Nathan Larson. Produktionsjahr

How this didn't win awards is beyond me. See all reviews. Top reviews from other countries. This film has a lot of sides to it.
I bought this film for only two reasons to be honest. Upon my first watch, I was on the fence, probably because it wasn't what I was expecting more than anything.
Upon my second watch, I fell in love with it and this has turned into one of those films that I rewatch on a regular basis. First off, I should warn, this isn't a straight up comedy.
It's pretty melodramatic, sad, heartwarming, poignant etc. There are very funny moments, but it's not a laugh out loud kind of movie.
That having been said, Hader and Wiig really shine in these dramatic roles as fraternal twins Milo and Maggie. The siblings haven't seen each other for ten years the reason for that will be revealed as the movie progresses and they are brought together once again when Milo attempts suicide.
After ten years of estrangement, twins Maggie and Milo coincidentally cheat death on the same day, prompting them to reunite and confront how their lives went so wrong.
As the twins' reunion reinvigorates them both, they realize that the key to fixing their lives just may lie in fixing their relationship with each other.
Written by Anonymous. Make no bones about it, the indie comedy-drama "The Skeleton Twins" is a nice little picture about two depressed siblings who reunite after not seeing each other for 10 years, and let's just say that the skeletons soon start coming out of their closets as they reveal much about themselves.
Milo is a struggling actor in Los Angeles who unsuccessfully attempts suicide in the film's opening scene. That near death experience brings him to reunite with his estranged sister Maggie who takes Milo to her hometown New York, so he could be in a New York state of mind.
Anyways, Maggie is no bright chip of the old block either. She is unhappy in her marriage with a caring, devoted husband.
She cheats on her husband and is taking birth control pills behind her husband's back. Maggie is one skeleton twin that is bad to the bone. The performances from Hader and Wiig were outstanding, and it was what brought the film to life.
I also thought Luke Wilson was brilliant as Maggie's husband Lance. However, I was not too enamored with Craig Johnson's direction and screenplay of the movie.
Too me it was a bit uneven and it might have needed some bare bones exuberance to the filmmaking of "The Skeleton Twins".
But I am still recommending this movie as a solid viewing, and no joints are even required to get a semi-cinematic high watching "The Skeleton Twins".
