Even after watching individual episodes, we needed to digest what we had seen and decompress. To help us do that, we developed a strategy to continue with keeping up a driving storyline with another series.
This worked for us. After watching an episode of Homeland, we could keep up the same interest and pace with an episode of HOC.
At the end of the 2 hours, it was if we had seen a film, and we felt OK about not binging, but we could take the time to discuss both.
We also made a ritual of doing this only 1 night per week. This spell-binding series seemed to have had its script almost lifted from the international news, and kept us glued to the next 3 seasons.
I think that we are due for even more current seasons! This is exactly the sort of series that is worthy of discussing with friends who also watch it.
This is an outstanding series. Season 1 was rated as the 2nd-best TV show in If one wants to portray a Marine one should get a proper haircut.
Other than that it is still garbage in my opinion. Which, like this show, means nothing. Most of what I find on TV is garbage A waste of a wonderful invention.
This is one of the most intense dramas I have ever watched. Every episode ends with a major cliff hanger and you just HAVE to watch the next one.
Claire Dane is absolutely wonderful in her role. The way she plays her character, Carrie Mathison, is nothing short of brilliant, You can feel her anguish and frustration when no one in the CIA will take her suspicions seriously about Brody, a Marine Sergeant who was taken prisoner by terrorists in Afghanistan and held and tortured for 8 years before his rescue.

I am surprised that some of the one star reviews are SO scathing because after finishing watching it I decided that it was not bad at all.
Other reviewers awarding it one star gave their reasons as 1 wrong region so could not watch it - entirely their own fault and 2 the discs would not work properly.
This surely would be something for Amazon and its market place to sort out. However, I would like to point out a few things. Someone described the family as unpleasant -even the boy?
Come on. And the girl- it is called adolescence- happens to many. There was far too much use of the "f" word, common in many American films.
I thought that the sex scenes were a bit obvious and slightly embarrassing, but the worst thing of all is that the characters are SO difficult to understand because they speak too quickly and mumble!!!!!!!!!!
This really annoys me. I think that the criticisms of the hysterical outbursts by Claire Danes 's character were unjust.
First because she was bipolar, and second, she is working in a male dominated environment and has to prove her ability to equal the men, and no doubt try to be one step better.
On the strength of season one, I have now ordered the rest, and if they are as good as season one, then I shall not complain. I did enjoy the background music as it as entirely appropriate and unobtrusive.
So far I have just watched this First Season and have found it to be very good all round. Claire Danes met with people who had bi-polar disease, Damian Lewis met with War Veteran,some of whom had suffered torture and isolation, had PTSD and he also read books on the subject s.
I found Mandy Patinkin's character Sol not too dissimilar to his role as Gideon in Criminal Minds, his mannerisms, his speech.
I don't pretend to know if the accents of Harewood and Lewis are correct or not but I do know it must be bloody difficult to turn it on and off like a tap!

Carrie no longer works for the CIA and the show is actually filmed on location in Berlin. It's nice to see Berlin and to see some good German actors in strong roles.
Needless to say, nothing is ever as it seems and don't trust anyone. Carrie becomes a "marked" woman and must go undercover to save her life and the lives of thousands.
Homeland is stylistic, well-acted and spell-binding if often contrived. Yet, we can dispend belief and go with the flow.
Danes is fantastic as always and returns to new heights of acting when she goes off her "bipolar" medication.
For some reason bipolar Carrie can think and rationalize better a terrorist plot than a medicated Carrie. It's also the new players each season who are incredibly talented as the terrorists bent on destruction and the couple who always have a conscience and want to do the right thing.
I'd like to see these actors again in starring roles. I was especially mesmerized by Ercan Durmaz as Faisal Marwan. The fear and terror in his eyes rocked me to the core.
Again, there are some seriously great actors in guest roles on Homeland. Season 5 can seem a bit slow. Season 5 has been spiced up a bit.
The location and pace has changed but again, we're dealing with Islamic terrorists along with the Russians and the usual CIA traitors. Carrie has to thwart another terrorist attack and hackers have unintentionally gained access to top secret CIA files that could harm the German government It seems routine at times but somehow it keeps working.
It's the cast that makes this show so incredibly addicting. Homeland Season was amazing, Season 4 was acceptable, but Season 5 seems to have been created from stereotypes and seriously lacks new, interesting or compelling characters.

Nothing seems natural and organic here, it's forced and kitschy. Hope season 6 is not as bad. Homeland's 5th season is as good or better than the prior four.

In my view the secret ingredient is balance ; the show certainly revolves around Ms Danes playing her usual determined and covert operative going under the radar to flush out terrorists using whatever help from whichever source that's available.
But there are always others that share the show's limelight giving this season some variety. But it is the regulars from the previous seasons that are interesting enough, to me, to keep watching the series.
Saul, Dar and Peter Quinn have been given absorbing prominence by the writers and directors of each of the episodes and have blended in as characters that are compelling and this season there is the strongest possible co-conspirator in the CIA Berlin chief played by Miranda Otto who flits in and out of each episode as much as she does in and out of different beds.
It's become a much more thought-driven series than before without the massive shootouts and explosions that I remember in previous seasons.
There are some fights, violence and a little bit of sex which reminds me that the writers need to get real and not include the ridiculous sexual liaison between Saul and Allison it's just not believable.
And his express-train walk is a hoot. And one other oddity : a shootout at the end where a car and its occupants were riddled with hundreds of bullets.
