Jan 18, Duncan Jones' science-fiction "Groundhog Day" is an interesting concept no matter how may times it is told, because I think that people will always find fascinating the idea of ammending the mistakes of the past and try to build a better future for ourselves and, hopefully, for everybody around us, including love.
There is an infinite number of variables measured by a Statistical ratio scale in our lives. Every breath we take, every word we say, every movement we decide to make, every person we forgot to speak to, every second makes infinitesimal changes to the entire concept of existence.
It makes a difference "here and there". We are reality changers. They will remember the plot and the ending, but nothing in between. Its biggest issue is the fact that it doesn't have a target audience, so the balance between genres is very unfocused.
Shifting from thrilling suspense to a plot twist, to romance? It is also good news to know that Gyllenhaal's career isn't dead yet. He will not have an undetermined number of 8-minute periods to fix his career in real life!

The Goldbergs. The Conners. The Con. And yet, there isn't. Now, as these films go, this is one of the best - it moves along rather quickly, the actors are charming, and it's reasonably taut and suspenseful.
It was well-reviewed and a hit so if you like this sort of thing, you'll probably enjoy this once you give yourself over to the "logic" of the film.
This was early on in the life of Blu-ray but the transfer holds up very well. I find it endlessly instructive to look at the one-star reviews - most of which are about some other region release not pictured on this page, or about blurry picture quality, not applicable to this release and probably because of a moronic home set up.

A very good movie! In the following review I'll be careful to keep things general and avoid giving away any spoilers. Source Code is a thriller with a heavy science fictional slant.
In this fast paced and quite engrossing film, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a soldier participating in a new experimental scientific project called the Source Code.
Through it's cutting-edge technology he is able to experience the last 8 minutes of short term memory stored in the brain of a man who was killed during a terrorist commuter train bombing earlier that same morning.
As it turns out, the bomber of the commuter train has also threatened to detonate an atomic device in the city, a "dirty bomb", killing tens of thousands of innocent people with his next act of destruction.
Therefore, it is desperately hoped by the Source Code team that by Gyllanhaal's reliving of the train attack via the Source Code technology, the bomber who they believe stepped off the train only just before the explosion can be identified by Gyllanhaal--and thusly tracked down and stopped before he has a chance to carry out his second, far deadlier attack.
Discovering that he is unable to clearly recall many details of his recent past, including how he first joined the Source Code project or even how long he's been serving as a part of it, Gyllenhaal has many, many questions to ask about the Source Code and himself in relationship to it--and the evasive non-answers he's given to his questions tell him that there's clearly something he's not being told.
Gyllenhaal soon realizes that whatever facts he is to learn about himself and the Source Code will have to be uncovered by him on his own.
As he relives the victim's final 8 minutes, re-experiencing them multiple times like some darkly twisted variation of "Groundhog Day", and as he races frantically against time to save a threatened city, Gyllenhaal also finds himself unexpectedly falling for the victim's girlfriend played by the likable and talented Michelle Monaghan and becoming obsessively concerned over what happened to the other doomed passengers on that ill fated train.
I thought Source Code was a very cleverly written thriller. Kept short and taught at only a sparse 93 minutes of running time, the film kept the story moving at a very fast pace without ever slowing down to catch it's breath.
I found myself liking this movie far more than I'd expected to. It really surprised me. After viewing it, I have to say I thought it had it all; from tense and exciting action scenes, to a "ticking-clock" driven mystery needing desperately to be solved before time runs out, to a unique love story between a pair of characters who I truly cared about.
In my estimation, Source Code never faltered for a single moment. Expertly acted, written and directed, I thought this was a clever, original and all around riveting film thriller.
If you're looking for an entertaining movie to keep you glued to the screen, then look no farther; Source Code is a spectacular way to spend 93 very entertaining and fast paced minutes of your time.

The concept teases your brain and the story as it evolves also tugs at your heart strings. I love this movie and every time I watch it, I always finish it with a few tears.
I highly recommend it to anyone who likes an entertaining and interesting sci-fi movie. Angry about commercial unskippable ads! A clever existential plot that keeps you guessing, and gives you something to think about at the end.
Zero stars for the disk though due to 6 unskippable ads at the start including the first product ads I've seen on a commercial disk. Mars and Wriggleys.
Pretty outragous for something I've bought. If you try and describe this film to a friend Which is infuriating as this a just a fantastic movie with a hint back to yesteryear when you pretty much had a couple of locations to set the story.
The story itself, however,is so good that it doesn't need a plethora of locations and sub stories. It's a fascinating look at time travel, humanity and ethics.
